History
WANDERER is an Island Class Dinghy, the hull of which was designed by C E Nicholson and the rigging and sail plan by Uffa Fox. The Class was commissioned by the Island Sailing Club on the Isle of Wight. It became popular in the Solent area and was used by the Portsmouth Harbour Racing and Sailing Association. The design was adopted by the R N as the 14ft RNSA dinghy in 1935 (see R 1782). WANDERER was built by William Atkins at his home in Porsmouth in the late 1950's. Mr Atkins was then serving as a shipwright in the dockyard. December 2009 (Archive)
