History
Dghaisas are Maltese passenger and cargo boats used in harbours and around the coast, and are propelled by one or two men with oars to which they stand and push instead of sitting and pulling. Their shape and design is almost exclusive to Malta. They are renowned for their ornate decoration and can still be seen, especially in the Grand Harbour at Valletta. VERDALA was owned by the Garscia family of Gozo before being purchased by the donor, Captain Harris in 1974. October 2007
