History
1939 VANEDA is said to have been designed by Arthur Hagg, previously Chief Designer at De Haviland Aircraft and built for the comic actor, Will Hay. She was launched in March 1939 by Charmian London, the widow of Jack London, the author of 'Call of the Wild' and 'White Fang'.
VANEDA was the subject of 3 articles in 'Yachting World'.Her design as a 'Water Sport' model (25th Nov 1938) was compared to a 'Sea Sport' model of the same length. Vaneda's launch (14th Apr 1939)see above, and her speed trials on the Thames (28th April 1939) when she was tested and compared to 'Gavine', a 'Sea Sport' of heavier construction but more powerful engine. Vaneda's performance was on balance superior.
Between 1939-45 it is believed she was operated by the Upper Thames Patrol (a Home Guard unit). July 2012 NRJ
