History

Four-oared boats of this type were often built for local families to race on the Gannel and Camel rivers: this vessel was built for the Hawkey family of Wadebridge. They were not used at sea because of the difficulty in maintaining their stability. SWIFT was moved from Padstow to Newquay in the 1950s and placed in the care of Newquay Rowing Club. From there she was donated to NMMC in 2003 and restored by the Museum boat team. February 2008
