History
There is strong local belief that this vessel was the CLARICE built in 1894 c by J B Blackett for the Rev.J Badger, Chaplain to the British and Foreign Sailors Society, and featured in the painting of Henry Scott Tuke The Missionary Boat. Alternatively, a more recent owner has claimed that she was built by the same yard 1928 and named SHIRA when bought by a Ernest Pine, a retired Brixham trawlerman in 1932. There is agreement that she was bought in 1945 by the West brothers of Falmouth. Apparently, she was involved in 1948 in local shots of the film Scott of the Antarctic. She was one of the founder boats of the DOGS (Durgan Old Gaffers Society) - a group racing traditional gaffers on the Helford river. She underwent a major restoration starting in 2000 and continuing into 2004. June 2010 (Picture courtesy of FQP Association/NMMC)
