History
Built in 1901 by William Paynter at St Ives, copper fastened larch on oak frames, for Richard Penrose. Since ROYAL OAK originally fished out of Sennan Cove, it is likely that she was designed as a crabber but by 1906 she was re-registered at Penzance for drift-net fishing out of Mousehole (PZ 56). In 1919 she was fitted with a 7 hp British made engine (? A Brit) and re-registered at Fowey (FY 63). She fished out of Mevagissey until 1923 and then out of Looe until 1925 when she was no longer employed in fishing. After some years at Porth Navas, Helford, she was located in the Fal estuary and used for oyster dredging at least until 1987 when she became a yacht. A major re-build was completed in 2010 and rig restored to dipping lug. June 2013 GH (Archive)
