History
RAGAMUFFIN is a Blundellsands Sailing Club Tyrer One Design. The craft were designed by Gerard Tyrer in 1944 to create a small, sturdy boat that could withstand the surf on the beaches of Crosby. This little clinker pram dinghy with its snub bow was the fulfillment of an idea originally mooted back in 1938. the first 10 or so were built by 1951. They were a great success and became the mainstay of dinghy racing at the Club. RAGAMUFFIN was the eleventh boat built and was originally called HOYDEN, but was renamed when the boat was later sold to a new owner. The class eventually swelling to 20, before the Yachting World National G.P.14 and Enterprise Classes replaced them for racing. GH Oct 2012
