History

This surf boat is a smaller racing version of boats used on the West African coast to off-load cargoes from ships that had to stand off the shallow coastline. Surf boats were often made in Birkenhead, Cheshire, for Elder Dempster Lines and United Africa Company and taken out with their ships' cargo. This boat was built for a regatta held during the Ghanaian independence festivities in 1957.July 2008
