History
History of this craft is unknown but this type worked the middle reaches of the River Dee during the 19th century when several hundred fishermen were catching salmon for the Liverpool and Manchester markets. By 1920, salmon netting had ceased although coracles continued to be used for angling until the 1950’s. They were designed to carry two persons and were made with a calico cover proofed with pitch and coal tar over broad ashwood laths. This craft was presented to the Merseyside Maritime Museum by Mr R Gladstone. November 2007
