History

Offered for free transfer by NMM 2015 This class of boat was used on the lower reaches of the River Parrett for fishing or as a sailing day boat in Bridgewater Bay. The most striking feature of ‘flatties’ is the sprung bottom with 5 strakes edge positioned at 30 degrees. They have a curved raked stem and a distinctive flat tombstone stern from which the rudder is hung. The mast is unstayed, the rig is sprit and there is a daggerboard for use when sailing, as well as oars. Further information awaited from Museum. October 2007 Check against other Flatners held by Watchet museum all on Register. Selected for disposal by RMG as being byond economic repair. GH Aug 2014
