History
The Albatross was designed and built by Albatross Marine Ltd of St Olaves. Built from aluminium, the light flush rivetted hull was initially powered by a Ford 100E petrol engine and soon became very popular in the UK and abroad. Two sizes were built, 2 or 4 seaters. Later Mk II versions, built from 1959 onwards, featured a redesigned bow and a larger Ford 122E engine as standard. It is estimated that 800 2 seaters and 400 four seaters were built with 80% of the boats being sold abroad. Some 163 MK Iis were fitted with the lighter and more powerful Coventry Climax 1200 cc engine.
This Continental MkII is fitted with a Ford 1600cc engine. GH 20 July 2010 Remove seat back and check serial number next time this boat is cleaned. GH Sept 2014
