History

This Shetland Ness Yoal was built in 2000 by Ian Best at the National Museums of Scotland at Edinburgh using traditional Norwegian designs and methods. It was built as part of a festival celebrating traditional craftsmanship. Ness yoals were worked off the beach and used for fishing with hand lines for saithe up to ten miles off shore.
