History
MISS BRITAIN was built in 1955 by Emery Boat Builders of Sheringham. She was built for Jimmy 'Paris' West, a local crab fisherman: he also used her for longlining for cod. She was a beach boat starting her life in Sheringham: her registration number was YH56. She moved to Overstrand and was owned by David Davies and Tom Dennis from the early 1960's to the early 1970's. She then moved to East Runton and was owned by David Bywater until 1977.
Then she moved to Trimingham and was owned by Andy Pardon until 1990: she then became a pleasure craft being owned by Rupert Berkley, then Nigel Dupe, then Richard Green. Miss Britain came into my ownership in October 2009 and was moved to Wells Next the Sea. Since then she has had some extensive repairs including 2 new thwarts and a new rudder stock. She has been stripped and repainted: all this work has been carried out by David Hewitt, boat builder, based in Stiffkey, Norfolk. There is some video footage of her first being launched in 1955 which comes from a video produced by the Sheringham History Society.
