History

MATAHARI was built as a yacht by R S Burt & Son at Falmouth in 1930 for Lt Col Osborne-Gibson. According to Yachting Monthly (1930 Feb p 253) her design was a modified version of that by Albert Strange. Through the years she had a number of owners (NMMC boat file). Her rig was changed in 1959 to an Aux. Cutter and in 1976 her original Thornycroft Handybilly petrol engine was changed to a Bukh diesel. A major restoration was started in 2004 by P Crockford at Heard's Gaffers and Luggers yard at Mylor. She is now owned and kept in sailing condition at Falmouth. Drawings and photographs are on R M Stephens files. GH June 2010 (Picture courtesy of FQP Association/NMMC)
