History
MARY was built by R Nicolson about 1910 at Haroldswick, Shetland. Used for all types of fishing, she could be called a saithe or haddock boat or a fourareen. The terminology is confusing as she could row with a crew of 6, but more likely 3 to 5 allowing the trim to be altered. This size of boat might fish up to 10 miles offshore for haddock or saithe, probably when the crew were not at the herring fishing. She was also used for pleasure sailing and fishing. November 2009
