History
JOAN was employed by progressive Foy boat owners who plied the Tyne aggressively to provide services for ships approaching, leaving and on the river. She assisted in kedging, mooring, transporting crew and supplies, especially to ships at anchor. From the early 1920's JOAN was a heavily used foy boat, later owned by the West family, until the use of foy boats finally died out in the 1970's. She then remained afloat as a pleasure craft and eventually became derelict. Although in a very distressed state when she was acquired by NEMT, careful lines and patterns have been produced and work progresses in 2014 to return her to pre-war specification. JOAN is one of three of the traditional Tyne Foy boats which are known to have survived and is therefore of both local and National Historical value. GH Nov 2014
