History
Designed by A Hardy Simpson and built by A Chadder Blank for Sir Edward Thorpe, Government Scientist and yachting writer as the first of the Salcombe A Class in 1921. Raced in Salcombe from 1921 to 1954. Taken to Dartmouth in the 1970's and re rigged as a gaff cutter. Laid up in a barn in the late 1990's, JOAN was rescued by the present owner in very poor condition and was restored by Justin Soole of Traditional Sail, Lincombe Devon. She has been given a new traditional style Bermudian rig designed by Ed Burnett. Aug 2009 GH (Picture courtesy of Classic Boat)
