History
HOURI is a unique 6metre International Rule yacht, built by Alexander MacDonald & Co at the Ferry Yard in Woolston, Itchen, designed by AE Payne,Jnr. She was commissioned by Edward John Baker of Hasfield Court, Gloucester & his tutor & friend,HRW Wintle,FRGS. HOURI has a distinguished list of subsequent owners.Unfortunately we do not have any dates to compose an accurate history.
HOURI was raced in the 6 metre class in Plymouth and the Solent in 1911,1912 and possibly 1913, but was thought to be over-canvassed as rigging was carried away and she was finally dismasted. After her conversion in 1919 she had a shortened mast, new reduced sails and a cabin was added and basic accommodation below decks.
