History

Built by Summers and Payne of Southampton in 1899 to be carried on board the steam yacht JOYEUSE 267 tons(LYR 1903), owned by Mr G H Fletcher. It was designed for use by his daughters for sailing while the steam yacht was in harbour. Her name, GWENEVE, is derived from their names, Gwendoline and Eve. She was sailed by the family for 72 years and presented to NMMC by Mr Fletcher's daughter Mrs Gwendoline Wingfield-Digby. Her sails are more than 50 years old and her anchor is the original.
