History

Withdrawn from sale. This kayak, which was found adrift on 20 August 1932, has hung among the Collections at the Society for many years. Because of its part in the tragedy in Lake Fjord, Greenland, when Gino Watkins died in August 1932, the RGS kayak is one of the best known kayaks in Britain. The tragic death of Watkins occurred only a few weeks into the 1932 East Greenland Expedition while he was hunting seals. RGS
