History

DEBONAIR was built in 1922 and was one of many boats built by Harry Gibbs of Hampton Wick for stock rather than in response to a specific commission. Boats were built during the winter and sold in the spring/summer, complete down to fenders, lines, boathook and cushions for £285. A purchaser could simply turn up, pay the money and drive away. This type of boating was seen in the 1920’s as an alternative to motoring as a recreation. Many were boats of this type were built but possibly no more 3 or 4 remain usable.A replacement Universal NB 1 engine was fittedin 2001.This boat won the Best Pre-War award at Windermere Classic Boat Rally in 2005.
