History

DAWN II was designed and built by William Osborne at Littlehampton and exhibited at the Olympia Boat Show in 1932. During World War II she was used by the Home Guard for coastal patrol in Poole Harbour and the Dorset coast. Originally fitted with a Morris Commodore 6cylinder engine. In 1935 a Morris Vedette engine was also fitted a a wing drive. In 1963 both the Morris engines were removed and a new 46 hp BMC Newage Commander diesel was fitted. DAWN II was moved to Tewkesbury and on to the River Avon in 1954. She spent some 15 years after 1977 in Wyre Mill Creek where she dried out and sank several times before being sold for the fifteenth time. A major restoration was started and she was relaunched in 1996. Further work, including a new deck, was carried out in 2003 after which she returned to Christchurch on the South coast for two years before going back to Gloucester and Worcester where she is now moored.
