History

DABBLING DUCK was originally called Gay Mary when launched in 1946 and has since had other names such as Blue Bird, Djinn and Lucy Too. She was built by Brooke Marine Ltd of Lowestoft as a post-war prototype (one off). The boat had its origins in a 1944 design study at Brooke Marine, to be marketed when WW11 finished. She was used as the boatyard's demonstration model until sold at the Earl's Court Boat Show in 1948. Her licence No. 5318 refers to permits to purchase timber, rationed after the war. Only one other yacht was ever built of the same design, (yard no.707), completed July 1947, (whereabouts unknown). Since being rescued DABBLING DUCK has been restored to full sailing condition, holding a boat safety cewrtificate until May 2015. In 2011 her engine was rebuilt and in 2014 there was general interior refurbishment. Future maintenance will include replacement of forard bulkhead, coachroof beam, tabernacle and some planking together with new keel bolts. Further research on her 69 year history is ongoing. 31st March 2015 NRJ
