History
Built as a prototype for a larger 16ft boat, Coot was built from rolled Bimabright aluminium alloy sheets. The skills and processes were more normally found in the motor industry. The boat was donated to the National Maritime Museum Cornwall by Mrs Anne Hulme, daughter of the builder. Anne's father, Alfred Hedges, was co-partner in the firm of Panelcraft, a sheet metal company which specialised in the manufacture of aluminium products. Birmabright boats were not produced in any quantity by this company. Mr Hedges went on to head up the firm of Nash Healey, which produced exclusive cars for the rich and famous.
