History
Built by Camper & Nicholson as YN 786 in 1952 BUCCANEER (sail number 256) was owned and raced by Gerald Potter, a founder member of the Solent Dragon class, in the Edinburgh Cup at Torbay that year and in 1953, 1955 and 1957. She next appeared at Abersoch and, later, at Helford Passage, with an inboard engine, where she was used as a fishing boat. In 1988 she was rescued by Peter Jackson of Falmouth, who removed the engine and refitted her for racing locally. She was sunk in a gale in 1993 and suffered much damage. Purchased by Steve Carson, sailing master of the ADELA, she was beautifully restored and went on to finish 6th in the Edinburgh Cup in 2002. Under new ownership, she raced locally in the Dragon Gold Cup and at Cowes. January 2008 (Archive)
