History
The design of this dinghy was a modified version of the 14 ft Island O D class and was adopted by the Admiralty in 1937 to provide shipboard sailors with the opportunity to go sailing in boats other than heavy service cutters and whalers. The gunter rig (avoiding long Bermudan-rigged masts) made the boats suitable for transport on board ship. This class of boat was used by the Royal Navy for about 25 years, until replaced by the fibre-glass Bosun class dinghy. DINGHY No 215 was presented to NMM by Britannia Royal Navy College, Dartmouth, in 1973. October 2007
