History

This boat was built in 1969 by Alfred Sovike of Lysekloster, Nr Bergen especially for NMM as a representative of a type of boat used in Norway from the Viking period until now. Boats like this were introduced to the Shetland Islands and gave rise to the very similar ‘fourareen’ used by Shetland fishermen until recently. The boat has only three broad clinker strakes each side which make for relatively simple building and lightness but a very restricted V shape hull section. October 2007
