History
A South American logboat from about the mid-nineteenth century. It was produced by firstly burning out the centre of the log and finishing with a hand axe. A top rail was added and secured by both nails and treenails. The bow has been decked with a tin plate. Such craft were propelled with a spade-like paddle and possibly also sailed. This canoe was presented to NMM by Mr M Olive in 1976. October 2007
