History
BASILEUS built by Primmer & Snook at Bursleden is a good example of a class of small outboard powered hydroplanes popular in the 1930's. BASILEUS is only known to have been raced once, at the Bann 100 in Ulster where she was fitted with a 350cc Johnson outboard and driven by Michael Willcocks. Presented to NMM Greenwich and subsequently restored this craft is now part of the collection at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall. This racing hydroplane is built of the ground-breaking 1/8 inch Saunders-Roe waterproof plywood, which was then covered with a proofed aircraft fabric. NMM
