History

This Falmouth Quay Punt was designed and built by R S Burt at Falmouth in 1905. She was commissioned by Frank Jose as a working punt, but he also registered her for fishing. In 1931 she appeared on Lloyds Register of Yachts. She became a sail training ship for Penzance Sea Cadets in 1936 and renamed FORESIGHT. Two years later she was back in private ownership with a series of different owners in Falmouth until 1963, when she was sailed to Malta. It was there that she was purchased by Tim and Pauline Carr, who used her for ocean cruising. After a collision with a trawler in Australia, sheathing of the hull in New Zealand and a re-fit back in Falmouth, she set out for South Georgia in the Antarctic where she was home for the Carrs for several years. In 2003 the Carrs sold CURLEW to the National Maritime Museum Cornwall and she was shipped back to Falmouth, where she continues to sail. January 2008 Other reading: Carr T Antarctic Oasis 1998
