History
BOADICEA was built in1808 by James Williamson at Maldon, Essex for Edward Perry. Her early history is vague but she was sold to Charles Bull in 1815 and then in 1823 to Dansy Hawkins. She was bought in 1825 by John Pewter who re-registered her for fishing in Colchester and continued to fish her until 1872. He strengthened and partially renewed her hull in 1839. She was then sold to a Mr Binks who had the hull re-built in carvel form in 1890 and kept her until 1917 when she was sold to Ernest French. He later passed her to his son Manny who undertook a major refit. In 1938 she was bought by Michael Frost who, although not a professional fisherman, continued to use her for fishing. In 1939 she was laid-up in the mud at West Mersea. In 1945 she was re-commissioned and a new mast was fitted. In 1962 she became stranded on war-time defences in the River Blackwater and became totally submerged at high water. She was eventually pulled off the defence boom and repaired but in 1963 she taken out of the water and a major reconstruction was started by Michael Frost. This lasted until 1972 when she was re-launched. An engine was fitted in 1975. In 1989 BOADICEA was inherited by Martha Frost, Michael's wife, who passed the boat to Reuben Frost in 2006.
Over the years, help in runnig the boat has come in the form of sponsorships at various times from Marlow Ropes and International Paints, and more recently Oyster Marine. A major refit was to be carried out in 2008. -see article in Classic Boat 2008 January page 16 January 2011
