History

As can be seen above AUREOL has had a distinguished career and many owners, but has been well cared for and frequently upgraded. In 1968 her original petrol engines (a Morris 4 cyl & a Stuart Turner wing) were replaced with diesels. Soon after Len Jones bought her in 1979 he met the owner of Latona, another of the Dunkirk Little Ships, who identified AUREOL as a boat called KITTY which also took part in 'Operation Dynamo'. John Knight, the Archivist for the ADLS, after extensive and thorough research, was convinced of her authenticity and AUREOL was admitted to the Association. The present owner now takes her to most ADLS rallies and events. After an initial breakdown outside Dover in 1985, considerable restoration has taken place, together with the addition of a stern wheelhouse. She has successfully taken part in trips to Dunkirk in 1990,1995 and 2000. AUREOL is now moored at Weybridge. She regularly cruises the Thames, during the summer months and appears at every Thames Traditional Boat Rally. 02-Feb-16 NRJ
