History
SPRING TIDE is a 14ft rowing boat built by shipwrights Billy and Jimmy Ray specifically for salmon fishing off Whitburn beach, a few miles south of South Shields. There are few of these older boats left in seaworthy condition, many having been left high and dry as catches diminished. In 2010 she was given to the North East Maritime Trust, South Shields by her then owner, Mrs Susan McIver, whose husband fished from Whitburn beach for many years.
In 2013 a major restoration was found to be necessary. Phil Smith, an NEMT Trustee carried out much of this work and has taken on ownership and regular use of SPRING TIDE in association with NEMT
