History
Removed from Beale park Dec 16 The craft is to a traditional Native American design using birchbark to form the waterproof skin of the canoe. The cedar ribs are split from logs, shaped with a "Crooked Knife" then bent to slot into the gunwales. The gunwales are pegged and lashed together with stripped fir roots. No metal is used in the structure of these canoes which were light, strong and easily portable. This canoe is a modern example built using traditional methods. Clean and display GH Nov 16
