History
VIVID was built in Gravesend in 1860 on the sea wall by St Andrews Chapel for Mr Grout.According to 'The Era' (London newspaper) 18th August 1861, she won the Peter Boat Class by 8 minutes in the Gravesend Rowing and Sailing Regatta, skippered by Mr E Sutherland. She fished the Lower Thames for shrimps and whitebait and is also known to have dredged for oysters on the river Blackwater and tended the Stoweboat fleets at Leigh-on-sea. VIVID was laid up during the Second World War and since then has had a fairly checkered history (see changes above)
In the past 30 months VIVID has undergone a major refit and been restored to the original sail plan. It is good to know that such an old and distinguished boat continues to be kept up to scratch, used and cared for. 8/10/13 - NRJ
