History
ROYAL TUDOR, registration Y828, was designed and built in 1960 by E Royall. She was the 'last proper wooden boat built in Norwich', according to Mr Nigel Royall, especially for the Norfolk Broads hire fleet of Royalls of Wroxham. By 1968 modern leisure boating improvements included wash basins in the cabins, a shower and conversion of the sea toilet into a pump-out thunder box with black water tanks. A gas fridge replaced the ice-box and the original petrol engine was replaced by a diesel BMC Navigator. Her varnished hull was maintained at least until 1968 but was later painted cream. She also had the Royall's orange decks which distinguished their hire craft.
In 1983 was sold into private hands, although still maintained by the Royalls at Hoseason, Wroxham. Her name was changed to KAIKOURA and she was now painted white and blue.
In 2010 she was sold again and reverted to her original name. Unfortunately, from this time until she was purchased by her present owner, ROYAL TUDOR suffered from very poor maintenance and was rescued sitting on barrels in a boatyard at Wayford Bridge with gaping holes in her hull in a state of total neglect.
The present owner and his father bought ROYAL TUDOR in 2010 and since then a programme of restoration and refurbishment has been taking place with the help and advice of Wayford Marine Services. Nigel Royall is also still involved to keep the family connection and she has been returned to her cream colours. She was relaunched in 2013 and took part in a cruise in company on the Norfolk Broads to celebrate. Further restoration continues by the present owner.
