History

In Bequia these small boats are used for fishing and probably earn the livelihood for an entire family. The only metal on the boat is the joining pins of the coconut wooden planking. Both boom and sprit are of local bamboo. The small deck at the stern is for the fisherman to stand on while line fishing. Interestingly there is no keel, the ballast being rocks from the beach, which is loaded at the start of the trip and gradually replaced by the catch of fish. GH July 2011
