History
MOONSTONE is an example of the Jewel Class of sailing dinghy. The design of the Class is based on a pre-war design of Robert Stone and was chosen by Walton and Frinton Yacht Club as a replacement for their 12ft 6in Gem class dinghies. Originally, six dinghies were built and proved very successful. They were followed by others that were used locally and in clubs both in the south of England and in Rhyl, North Wales. In total about one hundred were built. In the mid-nineties interest was rekindled in the Class at Walton and Frinton and Club members started to bring Jewels out of retirement, while others have been found and taken back 'home' to Walton. At present over a dozen original Jewels are in commission at Walton and GRP versions are now being built. February 2010 (Archive)
