History
Berthon Collapsible Boat. In museum collection at Kirkwall.
This craft is in good condition and considerably better than the other ones that I have seen. This small type of Berthon boat was made as a space saving tender to a yacht or as something that was suitable to fish from in remote lochs. The concept of the Berthon boat is totally different from that of the Halkett type (an inflatable) used on the Rae expedition. Awaiting further information from Museum. Sep 2010 GH
