History
NELSON is a pram dinghy that was built in the late 19th century by Charlie Trout the brother of D C Trout a local boatbuilder who donated it to the Topsham Museum. The dinghy is displayed fitted with a patent Hotchkiss Wave Propellor system. The inventor also developed a Hotchkiss Cone drive which was used on many shallow draught craft in the 1930's including the RNLI Surf Motor Lifeboat Thomas Kirk Wright now on display at Poole. Further research is in hand on the use of the Hotchkiss Wave propellors. Apl 2014 GH
