History
GOOSANDER was built by F C Morgan Giles at Teignmouth about 1982. She is an example of a Royal Dart 16ft O D Class which raced regularly from the Royal Dart Yacht Club until about 1997. GOOSANDER was sailed each year until 1997 from the River Tavey round to Dartmouth to take part in the regatta.
The Royal Dart 16ft O D Class is identical to the Teign Corinthian 16ft OD and, possibly, the Humber OD since a number of Royal Dart 16s went to the east coast and may have been re-named. Although the Class is named Royal Dart 16ft O D, the lines drawing show that LOA is 16ft 6in. However, early Portsmouth Yardstick ratings mention both 16ft and 16ft 6in Classes, each with different ratings. This anomaly can probably be explained by the fact that Morgan Giles modified the pre-war 16ft Teign Corinthian design, giving it an extra 6inch forward overhang to help improve the set of the foresail.
