History
This is a Whillie or Eela and was built by R Nicolson at Haroldswick in Shetland in 1882.This type of boat was used all year round by generations of Shetlanders for inshore fishing, to augment food produced by the croft, any surplus being sold for a little additional income. Sometimes a small squaresail or standing lug was fitted, although this boat never used one. This boat was owned by one croft family for 70 years before being acquired by Unst Boat Haven. November 2009
