History

An important Uffa Fox design because there is little doubt that PENSIVE TEMPTRESS was the fore-runner of the famous Flying Fifteen class. She was also his first design for a planing keelboat. Although rejected for the 1948 Olympics, her performance was outstanding and Uffa Fox further developed her rig and sails before she became the original Flying Twenty. It is said that Uffa Fox sold her because he was short of cash to buy a piano. She was raced successfully in East Anglia. In 1968 she was bought by Jim and Geraldine Smith who restored and raced her before presenting her to NMM in 1989. PENSIVE TEMPTRESS is, apart from the fibreglass on her deck, in her original state and could be consolidated for display. Note PEGASUS (NSBR 1521 is still in existence. GH Mar 2014
