History

Original whalers were open boats used as their name implies for whaling. They proved to be such a seaworthy boat that boats of similar type came to br carried as ships' lifeboats. In the early 1890's, the Royal Navy adopted it as its pime general purpose seaboat. The basic design was modified over the years and Admiral Montagu was responsible for much of its development in the Navy. This example is under restoration by the All-Aboard Watersports Charity in Bristol. OC2018
