History

CHALLENGER No1 is a trimaran yacht that became the progenitor of a class designed for use by disabled persons. It was inspired by Diana Campbell who was herself confined to a wheelchair. It was designed by Rod McAlpine Downie in 1980 and built by Cheesman Rollo Co at Staines, Middlesex. Some 110 Mk1 were built and they are based at sailing clubs and outdoor centres throughout the country, being used for training, cruising and racing. February 2009
