History
Simple canvas folding pram dinghy designed and built by G Prout and Sons of Canvey Island as the Scoprel, one of a large range of folding dinghies. The principle behind this design is the the bulging out of flexible wooden sides by wooden members or struts called 'floors' being placed athwartships. The ends of these floors are held under woodlocks and they rest in the centre on a strong keel on which are mounted a stem and a sternpost. A canvas bottom is extended on either side of this keel which allows the sides to 'concertina' in on the keel when the floors are removed. They were sold for £15 10s and could be opened in less tha a minute. Was photographed and measured at Museum. Collection has since been dispersed and location of vessel is now unknown. GH Dec 2009
