History
The date of build of THE GREEN BOAT is unknown but it is believed to be late 18th century. Pigments in the paint samples from the bow section were in use during the 18th century and largely abandoned by the mid-19th century suggesting that claims of repairs being made in 1809 may be well founded. Further research is being carried on this pulling and sailing craft that belonged to the Wynn family at Fort Belan on the Menai Straits. It may have been called St Davids and in spite of her age was used as a general workboat (raising and laying moorings) until she was presented to the Merseyside Maritime Museum by Lord Newborough in 1986.
