History

EVELYN was built by Frank Hitchens in 1898 at Point on the Fal. She was the fastest of his boats and, perhaps, the fastest on the Fal estuary. She was used for for nets, lines and crabbing. In 1917, under new owners and with an iron keel fitted she was used for trawling and crabbing only. In 1935 she ceased fishing and moved to Helford. Her name was changed to CURLEW about this time. She returned to the Fal in 1965 and used for oyster dredging In 1988 she underwent a major overhaul. In recent years EVELYN has been used solely for racing by the Roseland Syndicate. See article in Classic Boat 2009 October page22 November2009
