POLLYWOG, a Norfolk Broads Sailing Cruiser, builder and place of build unknown, but the Yare Sailing Club was founded in 1876 for 'Artisans' only and they had a racing class of half-decked vessels whose LWL and beam was not to exceed 25ft. It is believed that POLLYWOG is the only survivor under sail. Builder is thought to be either Mollet of Brundall, Norfolk, or Harry Little of Thorpe, Norwich. The class was made obselete by Dixon Kemp's 1886 rating Rule. LOA 21ft, LWL18ft 4in, MB 6ft 6in. DR2ft, tonnage 2. Hull is carvel built of Russian red pine planking, oak frames with a mahogany cabin wih pitch pine panels, fastened with copper nails and roves. Vessel has a counter stern, pointed bow and plumb straight stem. Has one timber mast, sloop rigged with gaff sails. Current engine is a Johnson, 2cy, 7.5hp, petrol, made in 1983. Current condition is immaculate after a major rebuild from 1988-93 (described in Classic Boat 1998 January p 72). Previous rebuilds were in 1919-20 (cabin fitted, counter removed), 1948 and 1962.
