History

The dory was built in Portugal and was used for long line fishing on the ‘Grand Banks’. The boats were carried on board fishing schooners and were designed such that the thwarts could be removed allowing them to be stacked or nested inside each other on deck. They were hoisted over the side and fishermen would set off for the shallow banks to fish, sometimes for several days before returning to the parent vessel to offload the catch. This boat was presented to RMG by Allan Villiers in 1972. October 2007
